JONATHAN SCHELL
CINEMATOGRAPHER

After winning the Student Academy Award as well as 26 festival honors for his NYU Grad film, “Picasso Would Have Made A Glorious Waiter”, Jonathan shot and directed commercials for a few years, including a NIKE spot, which aired pre-game to the Super Bowl. Continuing to pursue documentaries, he worked on a slew of environmental projects, including Al Gore’s, “An Inconvenient Truth”, “The Sierra Club Chronicles”, NRDC’s “The Follies of Liquid Coal”, and the Robert Redford hosted “Sundance Summit” comprised of Mayors acting on global warming. Recently Jonathan worked on Davis Guggenheim’s new public education feature doc, “Waiting for Superman” which premiered at Sundance.

Jonathan just completed co-directing the feature documentary, “Sex Magic, Manifesting Maya”, about a Tantric sex guru in Sedona. The film made an unforgettable impression on audiences at Hot Docs and is invited to the Maui Film Festival, Chicago, and Sheffield Doc Fest.

Other recent D.P. credits include the “The Springer Hustle” on VH1, “Under Fire” for Court TV, “Buy Ohio”, a feature doc on the 2006 election, and the ACLU’s “Freedom Files,” a 9 episode series on current social concerns.
